On February 24, 2010, The BPSOF, BPPA, BFD and MassCop attended a hearing at the State House relative to House Bill #4447, an Act Reorganizing Certain Agencies of the Executive Department which would attempt among other things to reduce the number of Civil Service Commissioners from 5 to 2.
I am pleased to announce that our attorney Leah Barrault received the following email from Senator Joyce’s Chief of staff:
Attorney Barrault, You appeared before the Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight to testify in opposition to this bill. The Senator wanted me to inform you that the Committee heard your client’s concerns and have worked with the administration on the issue. The Governor is filing a new article 87 bill that will not contain the section pertaining to the Civil Service Commission. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Jeffrey D. Perkins, Esq. The governor is going to resubmit his bill without the civil service provisions. So the Civil Service Commission will remain (with 4 commissioners) as is for now The union will keep track of this and get a copy of the Governor’s bill as resubmitted to the membership. |
