Captain Maura Flynn's Retirement

On Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the BPSOF monthly union meeting, our Federation Secretary, Captain Maura Flynn sadly announced her intention to retire sometime in April 2010 and resigned from her position as Federation Secretary.

Captain Flynn has been a stalwart member and supporter of the Federation for many years and has been the Federation's Secretary for the last ten.  Her experience, dedication and personal touch will be sorely missed here.  Good Luck Maura and Best Wishes in your retirement.  Thank you for all you've done here.

Lieutenant Haseeb Hosein of Area C-6 has been appointed as the interim Secretary.  An election for this position will be held on or before April 23, 2010. Lieutenant Joseph Toomey of Area D-14 has already announced his intention to run for this position.  Any superior officer who is also considering running for this post should notify the Federation in writing at least seven days before the election.  Since this is a city-wide election, open to the entire membership, it might also be a good time to attach some ballot questions, such as by-law changes, (i.e. open meetings) to the election ballots.  So please inform the Federation of any changes you wish to have reviewed by the membership.

Police Stress Seminar

Superintendent William Evans, BFS

On Monday MARCH 8, 2010 Dr. Kevin Gilmartin is going to be speaking about stress and the difficult task of policing in our society at the Boston Teachers Union Hall at the BAYSIDE.

We have been working closely with our unions to try to get as many people to go as possible given the fact we have lost 3 officers in the last 3 years to stress related factors.

Station reps are going based on whether they are on days or firsts.  Morning watch reps will be carried working for a later date.

Could you please accommodate anyone who would like to attend the training the best you can without incurring overtime. I encourage you to send all your CSO staff and a few officers from the day and evening shift since everyone could benefit from this discussion.

Day off officers who wish to attend and morning watch officers will be carried as working also. The day shift should attend the 9 am to 1pm session.

Those requesting to go on the first half shift should make their intention know to to their respective Captain and report directly to the Teachers Hall since the second session starts at 4 and runs to 8pm.

Thanks Supt Evans
